Eligibility:

Ages 4-19 and member of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Girls Incorporated, Camp Fire, or 4-H for their most creative and best executed service projects.

Awards:

The top 318 local unit winners can win up to $1000 in cash. A bonus prize of an additional $1000 is awarded to the project voted "Best in the Nation."

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarship Award

    Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarship Connection

    Eligibility:

    This free online scholarship search is designed for Hispanic high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students. Applicants must fill out a questionnaire before CHCI can begin a scholarship search.

    Offers:

    The CHCI Scholarship Connection (CSC) is a program designed to help Hispanic students access scholarships and other sources of financial assistance free of charge. CSC provides Hispanic students with substantial financial aid information through the use of the Scholarship Resource Network (SRN). SRN is a database equipped with more than 150,000 resources containing a wide variety of financial assistance opportunities. By using SRN, the CHCI Scholarship Connection conducts a personal scholarship search based on the specific characteristics of each individual student.

    Eligibility:

    Applicants for the program must be a high school junior as of the September before the January deadline, have a cumulative grade point average from the 9th and 10th grade years only of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, and be enrolled in an accredited public or private high school in the U.S.

    There are two levels of Tribute Award scholarships:

    State (and District of Columbia) Scholarships:

    National Scholarships:

    The Gates Millennium Scholars

    Eligibility:

    To be eligible for the Gates Millennium Scholarships, students must:

    • Be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American
    • have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale
    • enter an accredited college or university as full-time, degree-seeking freshmen in the fall
    • have a significant financial need (i.e., meet the federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria)
    • demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities

    Awards:

    Individuals selected as Gates Millennium Scholars will receive funds in an amount to be allocated by GMS on the basis of financial need.

    Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Award

    US Citizens. Must be an undergraduate in college or a senior in high school, who has been accepted to a 4-year, accredited university or college. Must demonstrate intention to pursue a career in the Environmental Sciences or Marine Studies.

    Three (3) $2,000 scholarships in the area of Environmental Sciences and three (3) $2,000 scholarships in the area of Marine Studies.

    Project Excellence Scholarship

    Eligibility:

    Every student who competes for a Project Excellence scholarship must be nominated by their school and meet the following eligibility requirements: African American student planning to graduate from a public, private, or parochial school in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and attend an accredited college or university; demonstrate outstanding oral and written command of the English language and possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5

    The size of awards varies based on the amount of donations Project Excellence receives. Last year, scholarship awards ranged from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on how well students performed in the competition.

    Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

    Eligibility:

    5th-12th graders who have conducted a volunteer service activity within the past year.

    Awards:

    In September, application forms are sent to all middle and high schools, Girl Scout councils, and county 4-H organizations. Applications are collected by these organizations on the last weekday in October and each organization names one Local Honoree for every 1,000 eligible students. From these winners, the top high school volunteer and the top middle school volunteer in each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico are named State Honorees in early February and receive $1,000 and a silver medallion. Ten of these State Honorees are named America's top youth volunteers of the year by a National Selection Committee at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in May and receive an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a crystal trophy for their school. National Honorees also will have $25,000 of children's products donated in their names to needy children in their communities.

    The Ron Brown Scholar Program

    Eligibility:

    The Ron Brown Scholar Program is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African-American high school seniors who intend to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time.

    Awards:

    Each year, a minimum of ten students will be designated Ron Brown Scholars and will receive $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000. The recipients may use the renewable merit-based scholarships to attend the college or university of their choice.

    Deadline:

    Ron Brown Scholar applications must be postmarked no later than January 9th of the student's senior year of high school.

    Ron Brown, was the Commerce Secretary during Bill Clinton's presidency. He died in a plane crash in 1996.

    The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, show exceptional leadership potential, and make an impact on their communities through service to others.

    Ron Brown Scholars are selected in the spring prior to entering college.

    Eligibility:

    Sophomores or juniors in high school in Boston (MA), San Francisco, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, and Solano counties are eligible. Students must be nominated by their teachers, guidance counselors, or youth agency staff.

    Awards:

    Students who are chosen are offered scholarships to summer programs that are educational and will give students some experience in talents they would like to pursue.

    U.S. Senate Youth Program

    Eligibility:

    Any high school junior or senior currently serving in an elected capacity in a student government, civic, or educational offices during the current school year or the next school year. Check the site to see if your specific elected position qualifies you for this scholarship.

    Award:

    Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington seeing their national government in action. After Capitol Hill, the White House, Supreme Court, Pentagon and State Department, they will each be awarded with $2,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies.
